Purpose: Ruptured aortoiliac and iliac aneurysms are life-threatening situations with high mortality rate between 40–80%. We retrospectively analyzed results of endovascular technique applied for these emergency situations. Material/Methods: Between February 2009 and November 2014 twelve patients (12 men, mean age 75.2 years) with ruptured aortoiliac or iliac aneurysms were endovascularly treated in our centre. There were 7 patients with rupture of degenerative aortoiliac aneurysms (rAAA), 3 patients had a rupture of internal iliac artery aneurysm (AII) and 2 rupture of common iliac artery aneurysm (AIC). We implanted bifurcated stent...

Aim: The aim of the presented evaluation is to compare 30-day and 1-year mortality in STEMI patients admitted directly to the cathlab vs. admitted to the coronary unit first. Methods: We studied 280 consecutive patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI in our department throughout the year 2012. In addition to usual STEMI time parameters (pain, hospital, cathlab, reperfusion), we recorded the way of admission (directly to cathlab vs. to the coronary unit first). We analyzed both groups statistically. The data for mortality evaluation purposes were derived from the National Registry of Cardiovascular Interventions. Results: We admitted...

Non-invasive blood pressure measurement in patients with hypertension

Jan Chrastina, Pavla Doupalová, Jan Václavík

Interv Akut Kardiol. 2015;14(2):70-73

The aim of this paper was to summarize published information obtained from relevant outputs of publications, which were focused on the area of possibilities of non-invasive blood pressure measurement in patients with arterial hypertension. As a method of conceptualizing, the approach using the analysis, comparison, critical discussion and summary of published results of research and studies (after elimination of duplicates) that were specifically sought in the period 2000–2014 in available on-line databases, was used. The specific key words and their combinations with Booley´s operators was used in EBSCO, PubMed, ProQuest, Science Direct...

Renal denervation: What is its current position?

Ján Rosa, Jiří Widimský jr.

Interv Akut Kardiol. 2015;14(2):74-76

Recent studies on catheter-based renal denervation have failed to demonstrate the efficacy of this method in order for it to be implemented into routine practice. Further research should be undertaken in specialized centres with the aim to identify patients who might benefit from this treatment modality.

Pulmonary embolism: what tell us the last guidelines

Zdeněk Vavera

Interv Akut Kardiol. 2015;14(2):77-83

Despite a substantial improvement of awareness of pulmonary embolism (PE) in a professional as well as in general public PE is still the third most common cardiovascular cause of death. Latest congress of the European Society of Cardiology came with new guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism. This article brings not only basic informations about this disease but also a view of PE through recent guidelines perspective.

Coronary artery rupture with acute cardiac tamponade as a complication of percutaneous coronary intervention

Markéta Chaurová, Zdeněk Klimsa, Petr Šimek, Miloš Holub, Erik Petrikovits

Interv Akut Kardiol. 2015;14(2):84-86

Coronary artery rupture during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a very rare but life-threatening complication. We report a case of a 70-year-old patient admitted to hospital due to acute coronary syndrom. Coronary angiography revealed a cascade of calcifited 90% narrowings of middle part of left anterior descending (LAD) artery. PCI of culprit lesion was complicated by coronary artery rupture with acute cardiac tamponade and consequently by hemodynamic collapse. Urgent pericardiocentesis as well as stentgraft implantation was performed during ongoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation which included use of mechanical chest compression...

Harm of IMA or LAD as a complication of permanent cardiac pacing

Petra Pešová, Otakar Jiravský

Interv Akut Kardiol. 2015;14(2):88-90

Perforation by a pacemaker electrode is a known complication of permanent cardiac pacing. The article presents two case-reports of patients with injury of IMA and LAD caused by a wrong placement or by dislocation of pacing electrodes. Both patients required acute therapeutic intervention – pericardial puncture with evacuation of pericardial effusion or cardiosurgery revision. Both case histories show harm of IMA and LAD caused by a displacement of stimulation electrode or by its dislocation.
