Pericardial effusion is a relatively frequent finding in patients after various catheterization procedures as well as cardiac surgery. The
main diagnostic method is echocardiographic examination that also allows to assess the hemodynamic significance of the effusion and,
thus, the presence of cardiac tamponade. In large pericardial effusions, pericardiocentesis under echocardiographic or fluoroscopic
guidance is carried out. Catheter-based or surgical pericardial fenestration can be considered in certain cases.
