Interv Akut Kardiol. 2006;5(5):207-210
Background: The study evaluates global quality of life in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) and the effect of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) on quality of life in patients with PAOD.
Patients and method: The study is local, prospective and longitudinal. It was carried out at 2nd Internal Clinic of Charles University Hospital in Hradec Králové. Dates were obtained during year 2006. The total number of respondents with PAOD was 30 (20 male, 10 female). All respondents had infliction of femoral and poplietal arterial circulation. The average age of all respondents was 63,1 years (age range 49–79 years). The average lapse time from PTA was 3,8 month (lapse time range 3–6 months). The evaluation of quality of life in patients was performed by means of Czech version of international generic European Quality of Life Questionnaire – EQ-5D Version. Statistical analysis was determined by means of analysis of variance ANOVA and t-test.
Results: The global quality of life in patients with PAOD is on the low level. The above-mentioned aspects proved statistically significant dependence of global quality of life in patients with PAOD on age (p < 0,01) and on Fontains stage of PAOD (p < 0,01). The statistical evaluation present statistically significant dependence of quality of life on PTA (p < 0,0001).
Conclusion: The results show the existence of the association between endovascular intervention by means of PTA and global quality of life in patients with PAOD. Endovascular intervention by means of PTA significantly betters quality of life.
