Thrombosis of the left atrial appendage in atrial fibrillation is the leading cause of cardioembolic events. In patients with a history of
bleeding complications of anticoagulant therapy, the possible management of this condition is to occlude the left atrial appendage
and to discontinue anticoagulation. Catheter-based occlusion with dedicated occluders is one of potential ways of accomplishing this.
This paper presents our experience with left atrial appendage occlusion using the AmuletTM system guided by intracardiac ultrasound.
