Cholesterol embolization syndrome is an atherosclerosis complication, characterized by peripheral embolization of atherosclerotic mass,

especially by cholesterol crystals. Cholesterol crystals lead to end-organ damage, due to inflammatory reaction and ischemia caused by

arterial occlusion. The origin of emboli is from thoracic, abdominal aorta and proximal large-caliber arteries. Elderly with atherosclerosis

risk factors are usually affected group. The cholesterol embolization syndrome can usually be seen after catheterization, cardiac and

vascular surgery. Authors demonstrate in the own case report the difficulties of the syndrome diagnosis and therapy.
