Clinical trial CHARISMA showed that long-term dual antiplatelet therapy with combination of clopidogrel and aspirin in patients with manifest cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors did not improve efficacy and increased risk of bleeding.

Subgroup analysis seems to show different therapeutic results in primary and secondary prevention.
